Low carbohydrate diet study

After 12 weeks on the low-carb plan, study participants had lost an average of 4.9 kilograms (10.8 pounds), compared to 2.5 kg (5.5 pounds) for their peers on the low-fat diet."

"However, after the weight-maintenance phase of the study, which lasted another 24 weeks, differences between the two groups in weight loss and fat mass remained, but were no longer statistically significant."

Interesting to see studies being done to compare the 'low fat' approach to the 'low carb' approach. There is also some distinction drawn between kinds of carbohydrate; complex carbs from vegetables are distinguished from those in fruits and starches, though there's no indication here of why there was a prohibition only for the first 2 weeks of the first 12 week stage. If anyone has access to the Journal of Clinical Nutrition, and can shed some light, please do.
